Nick’s Bio complete

Nicholas Nunnally

I am a husband to an amazing and very understanding woman (Jami) of almost 21 years. I have helped raise a strong, independent daughter (Lexi) that is 17 years old. We also have a loving son (Luke) that takes after his mother that is 11. I am a retired service member (US Army National Guard 12B/USCG BM1) and a current professional firefighter (City of Danbury).

Throughout my life I have experienced significant events that have shaped my personality and how I function. I grew up in a difficult home. I joined organizations that brought me great pride but also added to my growing list of life altering events that I would later try to bury or numb. I performed very well and in turn celebrated to excess. I eventually lost my reason for existing. I tried for a couple years to survive. I was failing. After a life changing experience that some may call a bottom, I became willing to do anything to find joy and meaning again. Through friendship, therapy, programs and exercise I was able to start gaining some clarity and purpose. I started to feel better. This was good enough for a couple of years. It was not until I retired from the military that I learned my next huge lesson. The man that I had become was the guy that everyone could count on, but all of the sudden I had lost my purpose. The love of my family was critical at this point, but also increased my anxiety. They had grown used to living a certain way, a way that I had easily provided but could no longer. It was time once again to utilize the coping skills and lessons that I had learned previously. I asked for help! My support network came together to help me get to where I am now. I honor their effort now by being of service to those in need.

We will create opportunities for veterans and first responders to find their why. Currently serving as the VSO for the Jason D. Lewis VFW post in Brookfield and the District VSO for the American Legion Post 302.

“Nick came in to talk to our group of young adult leaders about how positive leadership has impacted his career, his family and his outlook on life.  He shared experiences from his 20+ years in the Coast Guard, his current position in the fire department, and from raising his own children.  He provided valuable advice to a group of teenagers that were looking to improve themselves.  We are very grateful”
